Surf & stay

Our main surf camp is only a 5-minute drive from the beach of Dewata, which is near Unawatuna, Galle.

Dewata Beach is the best surf spot in Sri Lanka for beginners to learn surfing. It is only 5-minutes away from the Hemica Surf Camp. The waves there are small to medium in size and perfectly safe.

Yes, you can change your level. Our advice is to begin at a lower level and then upgrade when you feel confident. Talk to our staff and they will be happy to provide you with all the support you need.

Facilities for you to practice as well as learn yoga are available!

The average water temperature is between 28 °C and 30 °C. Therefore, you do not need your wetsuit.

Free WiFi internet access is provided to all tourists at our surf camps.

Yes, we provide clean bed linen and we change the bed linen regularly.

Our surf camp provides clean towels. But these are not for the beach. Therefore, it is best if you can bring your own favourite beach towel.

Sri Lanka & Travel

The airport will be the Bandaranaike International Airport (airport code: CMB). It is just north of Colombo and it is Sri Lanka’s main airport.

Airport pick-up and drop-off are offered for 70 Euros each way. If you book airport transportation, let us know your exact flight details by email at least 48 hours before you depart. Details to email us include:

  • ♦  Your WhatsApp number

When you arrive at the airport in Sri Lanka, login to the airport’s free WiFi and you will receive a text from our driver with his information and the meeting point. The drive from the airport to the camp in Dewata (in Unawatuna) is takes about 2 hours.

The currency here is the Sri Lankan rupee (LKR). The exchange rate of LKR to USD was approximately LKR 292  for USD 1 in December 2024.

Sri Lanka has many ATMs in all the main cities. You can withdraw money in LKR (Rupees) with your credit card or bank card (international creditors, e.g. Maestro and Cirrus).

The maximum withdrawal amount per transaction or per day could change with the ATM but the average per transaction is 40,000 rupees to 60,000 rupees (approx. USD 200 to USD 300).

You may bring your adaptor for your devices. Sri Lanka has two plug types – types D and G. Sri Lanka has a 230V voltage and it operates at 50Hz.

Mosquito nets are available and our team will provide you with the nets and other help you may need to fight mosquitoes!

Sri Lanka is a tropical country and the average temperature is 27 °C. The maximum average is 31 °C from February to May. The minimum average temperature is 22 °C in January and February.

Sri Lanka is a country full of friendly people. Although mainstream media has generated lots of talk about safety in Sri Lanka, crime here is low even in the touristic parts. It is lower than many Western countries.

As usual, normal travel safety practice are recommended. Respect for the cultural rules and customs in this beautiful and diverse island is suggested.
