Surfing is one of the most popular beach and water sports in the world. Sri Lanka is a famous international tourist destination for both beginner and professional surfers. The weather and climate conditions in this island nation are tropical with plenty of sunshine for everybody. The waves are calm in some surf spots while other surf spots, such as those in Arugam Bay, offer a challenge for experienced surfers.

Sri Lanka offers two famous adventurous regions for surfing – the East Coast and the South Coast. Golden sandy beaches, and in some locations, white beaches are found with all the required facilities. On the East Coast, the most renowned and enjoyable surf spots are Arguam Bay, Whisky Point, Elephant Rock and Pottuvil Point. On the South Coast, the most popular surf spots are Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Dewata, Mirissa, and Weligama.

The waves in the surf spots of Sri Lanka are perfect for any type of surfers in any month of the year. The average size of the waves in Sri Lanka are between two and six feet in the beginner surfing spots. But the advanced and challenging surfing locations offer waves between six and even twelve feet. 

The sunshine, wind speed, and temperature in this beautiful coastal island is enough for surfing on the season and off-season. The facilities and services given to surfers and other tourists on and near the surf beaches add comfort, value, and safety.

Long board surfing, boogie boarding, low power and medium power surfing, and left and right-hander surfing are all possible in Sri Lankan surf spots. You can find beach breaks with golden sand, beautiful reef breaks, rock breaks, and challenging point breaks are all available in Sri Lanka for surfers to enjoy.
